The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) was established in 1929 as the Contractors License Bureau under the Department of Professional and Vocational Standards. Today, CSLB is part of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). CSLB licenses and regulates contractors in 44 classifications that constitute the construction industry. There are approximately 300,000 licensed contractors in the state. CSLB also registers home improvement salespersons. The Contractors State License Board protects consumers by regulating the construction industry through policies that promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the public in matters relating to construction.

This dataset includes current and previously licensed contractors by CSLB. The information for each licensee includes License Number, Business Name, DBA Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Telephone, Entity Type, License Status, License Status Reason, Issue Date, Expire Date, Classifications, Contractor Bond Company Code and Name, Contractor Bond Information (Number, Amount, Effective Date, Cancellation Date), Worker Bond Information (Company Name, Number, Amount, Effective Date), Workers Compensation Insurance Information (Company Name, Policy Number, Effective Date, Expire Date), Liability Insurance Information (Company Code, Company Name, Policy Number, Amount, Effective Date, Expire Date).
