This dataset includes over 300 thousands contractors licensed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB), under the California Departement of Consumer Affairs (DCA).
CSLB regulates the construction industry through policies that promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the public in matters relating to construction.
Each licensee is registered with full name, business address, status, license issue date, expiration date, etc.
The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) was established in 1929 as the Contractors License Bureau under the Department of Professional and Vocational Standards. Today, CSLB is part of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA).
CSLB licenses and regulates contractors in 44 classifications that constitute the construction industry. There are approximately 300,000 licensed contractors in the state. CSLB also registers home improvement salespersons.

The information for each licensee includes
License Number, Business Name, DBA Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Telephone, Entity Type, License Status, License Status Reason, Issue Date, Expire Date, Classifications, Contractor Bond Company Code and Name, Contractor Bond Information (Number, Amount, Effective Date, Cancellation Date), Worker Bond Information (Company Name, Number, Amount, Effective Date), Workers Compensation Insurance Information (Company Name, Policy Number, Effective Date, Expire Date), Liability Insurance Information (Company Code, Company Name, Policy Number, Amount, Effective Date, Expire Date).

Nevada (0.87%), Arizona (0.75%), Oregon (0.62%), Texas (0.46%), Washington (0.41%), Colorado (0.30%), Utah (0.27%), Idaho (0.23%), and Florida (0.21%).

Los Angeles (2.65%), San Diego (2.44%), San Jose (1.97%), Sacramento (1.81%), San Francisco (1.60%), Bakersfield (1.23%), Fresno (1.11%), Riverside (1.07%), Anaheim (0.84%), and Santa Rosa (0.81%).
The total number of licensees has grown steadily year over year. However, the number of licensees dropped by 22% in 2020 due to the pandemic.
In 2021, the number grew by 26%, largely attributed to new market opportunities created by the pandemic.
We expect to see more individuals and businesses being licensed in the upcoming years.
