Overview

This dataset includes 50 thousand employees working for the State of Illinois. Pursuant to Public Act 100-0253, the Illinois Office of Comptroller provides all compensation for employees, including the rate of pay and year to date gross. Each employee is registered with full name, agency, division, position, total pay, etc.

There are over 30,000 public employees in the State of Illinois, working in over 70 different agencies and with 900 different position titles. The top agencies with most employees include Human Services (29.49%), Corrections (26.19%), Children and Family Services (7.05%), and Transportation (6.83%). The top three positioin titles with most employees are Correctional Officer (15.69%), Human Services Caseworker (8.48%) and Highway Maintainer (4.03%). In general, the human services and corrections departments employed the most of public employees, working as human services saseworkers and correctional officers.
The median salary of Illinois employees in 2022 is around $60,000. There are 20 employees with salary of more than $200,000, mostly physicians and medical officers, and three emplyees with more than $300,000. The three employees getting paid over $300,000 are: Tanveer Shan (Physician at Chicago Read Mental Health Center), Ajay Jeetwani (Physician at Mcfarland Mental Health Center ), and William Puga (Medical Officer at Corrections - Adult Field Services).
