The Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) is responsible for licensing and regulating over 700,000 individuals who are regulated by either the Michigan Occupational Code or the Public Health Code. BPL is also responsible for maintaining the Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP) and the Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS).
The mission of the Bureau of Professional Licensing is to protect, preserve and improve the health, safety and welfare of Michigan's citizens through the licensing and regulation of occupational and health professionals. The Bureau is designed to make the regulatory system simple, fair and efficient.

The information for each licensee includes license number, licensee name, facility name, profession, license type, specilties, business location, license issue date, expiration date and status, displinary actions, etc.

Registered Nurse (23.13%), Controlled Substance (10.86%), Cosmetologist (9.23%), Salesperson (5.44%), Medical Doctor (4.85%), Licensed Practical Nurse (2.93%), Professional Engineer (2.86%), Pharmacy Technician (2.56%), Masters Social Worker (2.52%), and Pharmacist (2.32%).
While a majority of professionals are located in Michigan (83.62%), there are also significant number of licensees in the following states:
Ohio (1.63%), Florida (1.39%), Illinois (1.02%), Texas (0.99%), Indiana (0.80%), California (0.70%), and Wisconsin (0.61%).

The total number of licensed professionals increased sharply in 2019 by 86%, due to the needs of health professionals during the pandemic.
In 2021 and 2022, the number of licensees continued growth with a rate higher than the pre-pandemic level, largely attributed to new market opportunities created by the pandemic.
We expect to see more professionals being licensed in the upcoming years.
